Claudio Radenti
- a Gourmet
Traveller
WINE
Winemaker
of the Year finalist
The
June/July 2011 edition of
Gourmet Traveller
WINE
has announced the first four finalists in its 2011 Winemaker of the Year 2011.
This is the 14th year of the award.
Finalists are chosen by a judging panel comprising contributors to the magazine:
Peter Forrestal (Chairman), Peter Bourne, Nick Bulleid MW, Andrew Caillard MV,
Huon Hooke and Sophie Otton. Peter Forrestal’s published commentary on the
selection of Claudio Radenti as a finalist included:
“A world of domestic and international experience, a keen eye for detail and
minimal interference ensures this winemaker’s success at Tasmanian renowned
Freycinet Vineyard...
Sometimes it takes us a while to get around to the winemakers whose greatest
virtue is producing vintage after vintage of outstanding wines that speak of the
sites from which they come...this year we acknowledge Nat White of Main Ridge
and Claudio Radenti of Freycinet. Both produce some of the Regions’ and
Australia’s finest wine...
Freycinet Vineyard is a quintessential Tasmanian boutique winery...
Radenti’s winemaking combines fastidious attention to detail with minimalist
intervention...his aim is to showcase the fruit from all the Freycinet vineyards
and allow the wines to gain complexity from time in the bottle...
Freycinet wines stand out because of their consistency between vintages, in
spite of the vagaries of the Tasmanian climate; the sheer quality of (at least)
the top four wines which rank among the finest produced in Australia; and the
ability to age gracefully...
The Freycinet Vineyard has earned the ‘distinguished site’ in its first 30 years
and this portfolio is an endorsement of Claudio Radenti’s time as viticulturist
and winemaker.”
The award is sponsored by Mirvac and Wine Australia with winners to be announced
at a dinner to be held in September.
